What is a CEPA (Certified Exit Planning Advisor)?

A CEPA is a professional designation awarded by the Exit Planning Institute to advisors who have completed rigorous training in the Value Acceleration Methodology and are qualified to guide business owners through the full exit planning process.

The CEPA designation exists because exit planning sits at the intersection of financial planning, business strategy, tax planning, legal structuring, and personal readiness, and most individual advisors are specialists in one or two of those areas, not all of them. A CEPA is trained to coordinate the full process and the full advisory team around a unified plan.

In Canada, the designation is relatively uncommon, which means business owners working with a CEPA-credentialed advisor are accessing a level of exit planning sophistication that is genuinely scarce. The methodology the CEPA is trained on, the Value Acceleration Methodology, treats exit planning not as a transaction to prepare for but as an ongoing business strategy that makes the business more valuable, more transferable, and better to own at every stage of the journey.
