Services | CFO and Advisory | Remote
About the Role We are looking for a Senior Accountant who wants to grow beyond traditional accounting and develop into a trusted advisor for the businesses we serve. This role sits within our CFO and controllership service line, supporting owner-managed Canadian businesses that need more than accurate financials. They need a financial partner who understands their business, anticipates issues, and helps them make better decisions.
You will work directly alongside our CPAs and virtual CFO team, supporting clients across financial reporting, management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reporting packages for owner-managed clients
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across a portfolio of businesses
- Assist in the transition of clients to cloud-based accounting platforms and CFO-level reporting frameworks
- Maintain general ledger integrity, reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Prepare cash flow reports, KPI dashboards, and operational financial summaries
- Support virtual CFO engagements including board reporting, lender packages, and strategic financial analysis
- Identify financial risks, reporting gaps, and operational inefficiencies and bring them forward proactively
- Serve as a day-to-day financial contact for assigned clients, building trusted relationships over time
- Ensure ongoing CRA compliance including HST/GST filings and year-end requirements
- Contribute to process improvement across reporting workflows, controls, and client deliverables
What We Are Looking For
- Someone who thinks like an advisor, not just a preparer
- Strong client communication skills and confidence engaging with business owners directly
- Analytically sharp with the ability to interpret financial data and translate it into actionable insight
- Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple client relationships simultaneously
- Genuinely curious about how businesses operate and what drives their financial performance
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2 to 4 years of experience in public practice or a client-facing accounting role
- CPA designation or actively working toward CPA certification in Canada
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
- Experience with cloud-based accounting and reporting platforms
- Familiarity with management reporting, budgeting, and cash flow analysis
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and CRA compliance requirements
